The weather is changing, and the end of an unprecedented cyber semester is on the minds of many. With Thanksgiving break and the pandemic cutting off all in-person activities at UB, winter break and the following months could become lonely for those who long for the full college experience to return once again. Luckily, there might just be something that could make some people a little less lonely. Pet lizards. Yes, pet lizards were my solution to the quarantine blues, and it could be yours, too. With many reasons behind this decision, I can confidently say that these fascinating creatures have brought joy into my everyday life. Reason #1: Their diet is 100% vegan Yep, you heard that right. Hailing from arid regions of the world like Egypt, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and others, preserving water is a key instinct of the uromastyx or "uro" f

Iowa Breeder Surrendering Hundreds of Dogs to Animal Rescue League - khak.com

Image
Nearly a month ago, we told you that for the first time ever the U.S. Government had gotten a court order against an Animal Welfare Act licensed breeder. The story didn't end there. Now comes word that the breeder is surrendering hundreds upon hundreds of dogs to the Animal Welfare League of Iowa. It's not enough. It's not nearly enough. The breeder, Daniel Gingerich of Seymour, Iowa, violated the Animal Welfare Act over 100 times in a six-month period before the Justice Department ordered that he be put under a temporary restraining order. Since that time, the courts have continued their work. In early October, the Iowa Capital Dispatch says Gingerich told U.S. District Court Judge Stephanie Rose, "OK, so I owe a lot of money on these dogs. I bit off more than I can chew... It's nobody's fault but my own... I owe $600,000 on these dogs. I would love to wash my hands of the whole deal." During that October 8 hearing, government lawyers told the judge that

Can You Eat Lizards? - Healthline

Image
Lizards are a type of reptile. There are more than 6,000 species of lizard across the world. They can vary in size, from a few centimeters to as long as several meters. People in many parts of the world consider them a delicacy, including in the United States. However, certain health risks come with hunting and killing wild lizards yourself than with buying lizard meat from an exotic butcher. Wild lizards may carry disease-causing bacteria. They also have sharp teeth and claws that can harm you and cause a serious infection ( 1 ). This article reviews whether lizards are safe to eat, as well as the possible health benefits and risks of eating them. Yes. In fact, people around the world enjoy eating them in many different dishes. Lizards are a cheap and accessible dish in some places, such as parts of Asia, Africa, Australia, South America, and even throughout North and Central America. For example, in Florida, people consider lizards like the green iguana to be an invasive species, so

American Horror Story Season 10: What Was The Point Of The Lizard People? - Screen Rant

American Horror Story season 10 introduces a species of Lizard People in its finale episode, but the quick reveal of their existence is barely explained. Death Valley follows two timelines, one in the past depicting President Eisenhower's treaty with aliens that allows extraterrestrials to abduct thousands of humans in exchange for technological advancements, and one that follows modern-day college students being abducted and impregnated by said aliens. While American Horror Story  season 10's alien return was highly anticipated by fans, Death Valley  was poorly received for its underwhelming conflict and story.

The Snake Capital of the Suburbs - The New York Times

In California, living in the hills means living among snakes. Chris Cole, a former professional skateboarder, and his daughter look at a dead rattlesnake he found on the side of the road in Escondido. Sam Hodgson for The New York Times OAK PARK, Calif. — A story that was in the news recently has been fueling my nightmares: A woman in Santa Rosa found 92 rattlesnakes beneath her home. Apparently it's extremely unusual to find that many under a single property, and no one was injured by the poisonous snakes. But if you, like me, are among the majority of Americans terrified of snakes, those disclaimers provide little relief. Snakes live in every county in California, and urban development encroaching into wilderness has increased how often we encounter them. There's also evidence that wildlife have been further displaced by severe drought and wildfires. "We're seeing an uptick particularly in snake encounters because many of them have moved out of this degraded habitat,

Gandhi with Gen Z: Frogs and Gandhi might make an unlikely pair but Ricky Kej's latest track hits hard - EdexLive

Image
I told you so — this is what Grammy Award-winning composer and environmentalist  Ricky Kej  reckons Mahatma Gandhi would say if he were to take a peek from the heavens above and look down at the tragedies that have befallen humankind. After all, Kej reminds us that it was the Mahatma who said, 'The world has enough for everyone's needs, but not everyone's greed'. But there is another equally famous quote of the Father of our Nation that has led us to catch up with the internationally renowned musician — The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated. This is the same quote that has served as an inspiration for  Gandhi , the sixth song from Kej's album  Divine Tides . This is not only Kej's latest album but it is also the result of a collaboration with  Stewart Copeland , the American musician and composer best known as the drummer of English rock ban

Lavander Albino KEEPING ball pythons as pets, especially for first-time snake owners, is actually easier than most people think.  Very recently, I visited my high school classmate to check out his unique serpentine collection.  Kiddo and a Butter Enchi Pastel (three-gene snake) "It's called a ball python (Python regius) because of its tendency to curl into a ball (especially when stressed or startled)," said Kiddo Yap, who began his ball python collection, 3K Exotics Ball Pythons, just last October 2020. 3K is derived from his name and his two kids, Kix and Kae.  From just 4 ball pythons, he now has a total of 80 ball pythons, including those he personally bred.  Chocolate Fire Orange Dream (three-gene snake) "I got amazed with the endless possibilities that you can produce by breeding them," he said.    Ball pythons are perfect as pets as they don't grow too big or too long. 10 most popular dog breeds to be rescued and rehomed - Countryliving (UK)

Jack Russell Terriers, Lurchers and Crossbreeds are among the most popular dog breeds to be rescued from animal shelters in 2020, according to new data from the Dogs' Trust. "At the Dogs' Trust we see dogs of all shapes and sizes coming through the doors of our rehoming centres," a spokesperson from the animal welfare charity tells Country Living. "In 2020, the most popular breed we rehomed was the Crossbreed, closely followed by the Jack Russell Terrier and the Lurcher." Following sad news that many people are rushing into adopting lockdown puppies, the team at the Dogs' Trust explain the importance of always doing your research. "If you're thinking of rehoming a dog, it's really important to do your research and look into which breed of pooch might suit your lifestyle," they say. "When rehoming from us, lots of people have a preset idea about what sort of canine companion they would like to welcome into their lives. After speaki
