You could argue that purebred dogs are top-of-the-line. In reality, the benefits of owning mixed-breed dogs are numerous, since their characteristics are drawn from a larger gene pool. This allows the adopter to focus more on the mixed-breed dog's personality, rather than breed itself. Plus, who wouldn't want to rescue a unique mixed-breed puppy that stands out at the dog park!

From short-nosed mixed-breed dogs to ones with spots and everything in between, here is a list of 25 cute mixed-breed dogs, including mixed large dog breeds and mixed small dog breeds, that will have you eager to adopt your next fur buddy. Just take our advice and try not to fall in love with all of them.

Mixed-Breed Dogs

1. Maltipoo

Intelligent, gentle, and playful, a Maltipoo is a cross between the loveable Maltese and the Toy or Miniature Poodle. Their small size and affectionate nature make them the perfect lap-sized mixed-breed dog. No need to worry about your furniture—these pups are non-shedders and hypoallergenic.

2. Springador

Also known as a Labradinger, Springadors have been around for a long time (informally). These Labrador and Springer Spaniel mixed-breed dogs often take the colors of the Labrador—yellow, black and chocolate—and grow to be fairly large. The beauty of these mixed-breed dogs though, means that they may also develop the curly hair and white markings typical of a Springer Spaniel! These two quality breeds together create a friendly, water-loving, high-energy dog.

3. Labradoodle

One of the fluffier mixed-breed dogs, the Labradoodle, is mixed between a Labrador and a Toy or Miniature Poodle. Playful and spunky come to mind when thinking about these 50-60 pound teddy bears. If you're looking for a lazy, unadventurous couch dweller, steer clear. While Labradoodles can sit quietly at your feet, they're ready to jump up for a game of fetch at a moment's notice.

4. Morkie

Sounds like an alien name, right? It's definitely the cutest little alien we've ever seen! A cross between a Maltese and a Yorkshire Terrier, Morkies seem to have inherited their parent's best traits: small, energetic, and super silly. Nappers beware—this mixed-breed dog tends to bark.

5. Corgidor

Mix a Welsh Corgi and a Labrador and you get a medium-sized, short-legged fireball. Personalities are tough to determine with this mixed-breed dog. Corgidors can be loyal companions like the Labrador parent, or more assertive herders like the Corgi parent. One thing is for sure—they tend to be full of energy, so be prepared to have a closet stocked with toys if you decide to adopt this mixed-breed dog.

6. Jack-A-Poo

With the prey drive of a Jack Russell Terrier and the personality of a Poodle, Jack-A-Poos could easily be considered the Jack-of-all mixed-breed dogs. Energetic, chatty, loyal, and social, they don't seem to lack much. These little balls of energy make great travel pets as they stay by your side and are small-to-medium size.

7. Gerberian Shepsky

The Shepsky is a regal, intelligent mixed-breed dog between a Siberian Husky and a German Shepherd. They need large homes with yards and can become destructive when under-stimulated. This large pup usually has a long, dense coat, making them super shedders that can tolerate frigid weather.

8. Pugapoo

As if Pugs didn't already have a distinctive look, when you mix one with a Poodle you get the funkiest of mixed-breed dogs. They're low maintenance, fairly active, and medium-sized. Take note, Pugapoos have longer noses than their Pug cousins, making them less prone to breathing problems. However, be sure to break their playtime into increments so they are not over-exerted.

9. Texas Heeler

Texas Heelers are the cowboys of mixed-breed dogs. Crossed between the Australian Cattle dog and Australian Shepherd, they're named after where you're most likely to find them: Texas. They're natural herders and are medium-sized, loyal, and highly intelligent.

10. Boxerdoodle

By now you've probably recognized that Poodle combinations are endless. When imagining Boxerdoodles, think of a very fluffy Boxer. The Poodle's curly coat gives this pup a unique look—lean and muscular with curly/wavy hair. Sizing and colors are hard to pin down with this mixed-breed dog; they can be just about any color and range from small to large in size.

11. Poogle

This loveable mixed-breed dog is a mix between a Beagle and—you guessed it—a Poodle. People with dog allergies are known to better tolerate this medium-sized breed, as they are hypoallergenic with low shedding fur. They also make great watchdogs and while they won't bark excessively, they're sure to alert you of any danger.

12. Chiweenie

Compact is the perfect word to describe this Chihuahua and Dachshund mixed-breed dog. They make great apartment dogs due to their small size and the fact that they are especially easy to groom. Don't underestimate these little guys—they are fairly "yappy" but make great security guards!

13. Shorkie

Another great apartment dog, the Shorkie, is a mix between a Shih Tzu and Yorkshire Terrier. What they lack in size, they make up for in personality. Shorkies are considered high maintenance, yappy dogs with faces so adorable you can never stay angry with them. If you're looking for a fiercely loyal dog that comes in a tiny package, this might be the pup for you.

14. Cavachon

The Cavachon is a mix between the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Bichon Frise dog breeds. This small and attentive pup loves exercise but has no problem curling up in your lap for nap time. To top it all off, Cavachons aren't particular when it comes to living in a house or apartment.

15. Utonagan

Just about the closest you can get to owning a pet wolf, the Utonagan is a mix between not two, but three distinct breeds: Siberian Husky, German Shepherd, and Alaskan Malamute. The result of mixing these dog breeds is a wild and wolf-like, yet totally friendly and domesticated, pup. The Utonagan is considered a large-breed dog and requires a decent amount of daily exercise.

16. Cheagle

The Cheagle is a spunky dog with a name to match. Joyous and friendly, these little rascals are a mix between the Chihuahua and Beagle. Small in size, they vary in coat length and possess a long lifespan. Cheagles are known barkers that are protective and territorial of those they love.

17. Bullmation

These charming, polka dot pups originate from the Bulldog and Dalmatian breeds. They are quite active, but love to stay by your feet when they aren't playing games. Bullmations love making friends and are known to get along well with dogs and cats alike, although early socialization plays a large part in this trait. It's recommended to set aside 45 minutes or more each day for a walk or game of fetch with this larger dog.

18. Docker

This fabulous little darling is a little bit Dachshund and a little bit Cocker Spaniel. Ranging from small to medium size, they enjoy lounging with intervals of playtime. Dockers are known to have a high-maintenance coat, but the extra grooming is worth it for their stunningly shiny coat. Beware: They're prone to be mischievous due to their Dachshund-derived personality.

19. Labrastaff

Also known as the Staffador, Labrastaffs are a mix between the Labrador and American Staffordshire Terrier dog breeds. Most of the time, this large mixed-breed dog takes on the body of the Lab and the bulky head of the AmStaff. They make great family dogs and prefer to burn their energy outdoors.

20. Great Weimer

A lesser-known mixed-breed dog, the Great Weimer is part Great Dane and part Weimaraner. Although they're usually tolerant of children and other animals, they're massive and should be supervised around anything that could be knocked over during play. This also means that Great Weimers are not suited for small apartments and are extremely active.

21. Frug

The Frug—easily one of the funnier mixed-breed dog names—is an offspring of the French Bulldog and Pug. They possess an eager-to-please attitude and an undeniably cute face. It's easy to predict how Frugs look, as their parent breeds have similar features. Expect a compact, muscly body with a curly tail.

22. Labradane

The Labradane comprises two dog breeds: the Labrador Retriever and the Great Dane. They're handsome, large, and don't mind being #2 in the pack. Be prepared though, as a Labradance puppy is expected to weigh in at 140 to 160 pounds fully grown.

23. Aussiepom

Exuberant and fun-loving, Aussiepoms has become a popular mixed-breed dog due to their high intelligence. Since they come from very different parents—the Australian Shepherd and Pomeranian—they're an energetic dog anyone can't help but love. Most are generally healthy and range from 10 to 30 pounds fully grown.

24. Chusky

The Chusky is a cross between the Chow Chow and Husky dog breeds. They go by several names, but don't let this distract you from their adorable, fluffy features. The Chowsky possesses high intelligence from both its parents and is incredibly loyal. If you're okay with heavy shedding, this fun-loving pup could make a perfect addition to your family.

25. Goberian

Goberians are known as a first-generation mix and are a cross between the Golden Retriever and Siberian Husky dog breeds. They absolutely adore their humans and make fantastic family pets. Their large size speaks well to the amount of affection they give, seeing as they look to their owners as best friends. However, Goberians need a decent amount of exercise and love activities such as jogging, hiking, and playing fetch.
