Inside One Of The World’s Deadliest Islands Overrun By Venomous Snakes - UNILAD

Image
60 Minutes Australia Illha da Queimada Grande is one of the deadliest islands in the world, having been completely overrun by venomous snakes.  The island is located in Brazil, just south of Sao Paulo, but despite its beauty, it holds a dark secret. At first, it appears to be a luscious green 110-acre island surrounded with clear water, however if you were to step onto the island, you would be faced with a much darker reality – and even be at risk of losing your life. The island has been nicknamed 'Snake Island' due to being inhabited by countless numbers of golden lancehead pit viper snakes, Daily Star reported. While lanceheads exist on the mainland, their venom is nowhere near as powerful as the golden species that inhabit the island, with the golden lancehead pit viper's venom thought to be five times more potent. Subsequently, if you are bitten by one of the golden variety of the snakes, the chances of survival are pretty slim, particularly as the island is r

The wildlife officer pops the metal lid off a can of powdered chocolate drink mix, releasing a rush of sour air that smells like excrement. Inside is a black sock crimped by rubber bands. Carefully unrolling the sock, she discovers a small, brown-scaled reptile—a shingleback lizard, barely conscious and severely dehydrated, with duct tape across its arms and legs to restrict its movement. Senior Forest and Wildlife officer Abby Smith takes photos for evidence of a shingleback lizard seized in February 2019 in Melbourne. Shinglebacks are one of the most popular reptiles in the international illegal pet trade. Please be respectful of copyright. Unauthorized use is prohibited. According to the delivery label, the can was part of a larger consignment—a box full of other tins and objects containing more reptiles—en route to Hong Kong, likely to be sold as pets. At the Australia Post Melbourne Gateway Facility in Victoria, where every piece of outbound mail is scanned, inspectors intercepted

Here are the 10 smelliest breeds of dog - adorable but stinky pet pups - The Scotsman

A huge number of us decided to welcome new puppies into our homes last year – Kennel Club figures show dog ownership soared by nearly 8 percent – and post-lockdown demand for four-legged friends remains high. There are a whopping 221 different breeds of pedigree dog to choose from, alongside numerous crossbreeds, so there's plenty of thinking to do before you select your family's latest addition. There's even academic guidance to seek out, with Psychologist Stanley Coren's book 'The Intelligence of Dogs' ranking breeds by instincts, obedience, and the ability to adapt. One thing to take into consideration is that some dogs are essentially self-cleaning, needing little more than a quick rinse if they get really mucky, while others have tend to get quite fragrant if they're not bathed regularly. And some just smell, no matter how many baths they have – flatulence can be a problem – but that doesn't make them any less adorable. Here are the 10 smelliest bre

Lizards appeared on the Earth about 200 million years ago, and there are approximately 5,000 species of lizards on the planet today. Most lizards have long bodies and tails, small heads, short necks, and moveable eyelids. From the brilliant blue tree monitors to the expertly camouflaged Hidden Dragon lizards, there are many rare and fascinating types of lizards to discover. Gargoyle Gecko Maisna / Getty Images Gargoyle geckos ( Rhacodactylus auriculatus ) are polymorphs, which means that no two gargoyle geckos look exactly the same. What they all have in common, though, is they are fairly small, have round toe pads, and are good climbers. Gargoyle geckos hail from the southern parts of New Caledonia, east of Australia, and they are endangered.
